I began using colorenlargement.com a few years back as they were recommended to me by a friend. I am still using them today, and will continue to use them as long as they exist. This company is AMAZING. The very first time i went to them, I wanted to enlarge a panoramic photo I had taken in the mountains. Although they had a section on their website for me to enter my custom dimensions, I was still unsure so i used their LIVE chat system and spoke to someone immediately. Their customer service is TOP NOTCH. I placed my order, which must have been printed same day given the speed of delivery, and when it arrived was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. I have sent all kinds of enlargements to this company and i have NEVER been disappointed. There have even been times that something came back to me looking better than what I thought I had sent! Bottom line - this is the place for your enlargement needs. Colorenlargement.com is FAST, friendly, and truly one professional company.– Matthew James, Dallas, Texas

I just wanted to take the time to Thank You for making my digital prints a wonderful work of art. I had taken several pictures on my trip across country this spring and after using your simple and easy web site directions I was able to order and send you the pictures quickly. In a mater of days the pictures arrived and I took them from the tube to find the most beautiful and colorful pictures ever. I even had one particular picture that had wires in front of a mountain, at no extra charge you took it upon yourself and removed the lines. The picture is so beautiful now and all of the pictures have been framed and are waiting to be hung in our new home next week. Thanks again for helping me share my photos in a way that everyone can enjoy them. Please let Bill know that I really am glad he took the time to take out the wires. I'm sure I will be sending more pictures to be enlarged in the future.–-Holly, Colonial Beach, VA

Just a quick note to "Thank You" for such a wonderful product!! I am a Sports Action Photographer and one of my hottest items just happens to be "Posters"!! I have been doing business with others that claim they "Specialize" in printing big prints but they do not hold a candle to the quality prints you produce!!  I will be doing more business with you!!–-Robyn

Q: This is our number one question: How large can I make my print?

A: There is a quick way to test it yourself, if you zoom into your picture and are happy with the quality of the photo up close, you will be happy with the enlargement. A color enlargement does not get fuzzier or more grainy when it is printed larger you simply see the same image just bigger including all its pixels, flaws etc. If you zoom really close on a photo in Photoshop for example and you don’t see much pixilation, then you won’t see it on the enlargement either. If you zoom into your photo and you see quite a bit of pixilation, you will see the same on the enlargement just bigger. Enlargements won’t look worse than the original, and surprisingly, may actually look better. People are often surprised at how well they turn out. We do what we can to do pixel smoothing if necessary to give you the absolute best print. Help us by sending the highest resolution image that you can. If you are scanning an image, scan it at 300 dpi (dots per inch). And if you are sending a digital image, don’t resize it send the biggest file size you have.

Note: You can upload images on this web site up 100 megabytes. We often see that a customer resizes their image to 300 dpi, thinking “if my image looks good at 72 dpi, then it will look even better at 300 dpi, or that printing companies must have images at 300 dpi.  This is simply not true.  The only time you need to increase the DPI is when you are decreasing the inch size.   WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU NOT INCREASE THE SIZE OF YOUR FILE, MAKING THE FILE SIZE BIGGER WILL NOT IMPROVE THE IMAGE QUALITY. LET US RESIZE YOUR IMAGE FOR YOU. If in question, feel free to send us your image and we will be able to tell you if we think it will enlarge well. Just put in your notes that you would like us to evaluate the photo for you.  The following chart is strictly our opinion of how large you can go, this really depends on your camera, your lens etc.  For example an 8 megapixel camera phone will not produce as sharp of an image as a 4 megapixel high end digital camera with a great lens.  Don’t be fooled by megapixels, a good lens on you camera is much more important.

Q: What type of files can you receive?

A: Almost anything, WE PREFER JPGS. if you need confirmation please send our graphic artist an e-mail. Please just make a note that you want to know if we can handle this file type. We don’t like receiving .tiff files as they are just too big, please save as a .jpg before sending, the print quality will be the same.

Q: What is Resolution?

A: Resolution is a rating of the total number of pixels used by the camera image sensor to capture the photograph. For example if the camera utilizes a 4000×3000 pixel image sensor the total number of pixels is 12,000,000 or 12 million pixels. Resolution rates the number of pixels in megapixels (1 megapixel = 1 million pixels), so a camera with a native resolution sensor of 4000×3000 would be a 12MP camera. Resolution is theoretical maximum that any camera can achieve, unfortunately most cameras, especially digicams, cannot meet this and consequently true resolution is metric to use when understanding what a camera is capable of.  Thank-you Snapsort.com for this info, I could not have explained it better myself.

Q: I don’t have a digital file, can I send you a regular photo to enlarge?

A: Yes, however we can NOT promise the safe return of your photo. We will do everything possible to return your original photo (haven’t lost one yet), but we are unable to guarantee it, I don’t trust the mail.  If you wish to send us your photo to scan here, you will have to do so at your own risk.  Sorry, we can not accept photo’s that are copyrighted without written consent from the photographer.

Q: What are Megapixels

A: When it comes to digital cameras, the picture quality capability is measured in megapixels. For example, a 3.1 megapixel camera can take pictures with a resolution of 2048 x 1536, which equals 3,145,728 pixels. That is, the resulting image will be made up of 3.1 megapixels, or over three million dots. Printers measure quality in DPI (dots per inch). A printer capable of only 300 DPI will not print the 3.1 megapixel image in its native high quality. It’s simply not capable of reproducing the fine detail. Instead the image may appear grainy. Colorenlargement.com is capable of printing resolutions of up to 2400 x 1200 optimized dpi from 1200 x 1200 input dpi and Optimization For Photo Paper.  So you don’t need to worry about our printers being capable of printing your image.

Q: Are prints ordered with ColorEnlargement.com considered “archival” quality?

A: Yes, Your photos are printed on high-quality paper, which is a resin-coated, silver-halide color paper optimized for digital printers. A light source inside our digital printers exposes the photographic paper pixel by pixel. This process mimics traditional photography, in which light from the subject exposes photographic film inside of a camera.  Our printers create archival prints of your digital photos, which should last as long as the prints you would receive from a traditional professional photo processor.  How long will my print last before fading?  We produce only premium quality prints, so no matter which paper finish you choose it is considered archival quality which means, the print will be non-fading, and independently rated at 75-100 years of print stability under normal viewing conditions.  I have no idea how they determined this, since these types of printers have only been around about 20 years, never the less  they are considered archival class prints.  I have read other articles that claim archival means up to 200 years in the dark.  We have had prints in sunny areas and under Fluorescent  lights at many customer sites for many years now and they still look great.  By the way, only UV inks are used at colorenlargement.com, printers that use pigment inks fade.

Q: Are the canvas prints ready to be framed?

A: Yes and No, Yes, all of our prints are ready to be frames as is, but the prints are shipped print only in a heavy duty shipping tube, we do not mount them of stretcher boards or frame them.   For the canvas prints we leave 2″ -3″ of extra material around the image for mounting purposes.  These prints are designed to be mounted on artists stretcher bars for the best presentation.  After stretching the canvas, you would then mount in your frame.  If you need stretcher boards, they can typically be purchased at any Hobby Store.  We recommend Madison Art Shop for extra large stretcher boarda or for gallery wrap boards.  We have sent quite a few customers to them and have never had a complaint.  They can custom make very long boards if they don’t already have them in stock, they ship fast too.

Q: How much is shipping / handling? Shipping is automatically calculated, and it includes the cost of the tube..

A: Your shipping cost is automatically calculated prior to clicking the final submit button. We are not looking to make money on shipping, nor do we intend to create a “hidden profit” in shipping and handling. Our shipping cost is automatically created by our Merchant Account Software when you pay using your credit card. We ship in high quality cardboard shipping tubes which have proven to be very successful. Shipping may vary slightly +/- depending on your state.  That being said; occasionally a shipping tube is destroyed, run over, thrown in a lake, dropped from a building, run over, opened, crushed or destroyed by the professional package crushers at the post office.  If this happens to you, don’t worry we will replace it.
